Daina Higgins

Daina Higgins (b. 1979, Columbus, OH) is a mixed-media artist based in New York, NY. She is originally from Columbus, OH, where she graduated from the arts-focused high school Fort Hayes. In 2001, she received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York, followed by an MFA from Queens College, CUNY, in 2009. In 2021, Higgins presented the solo exhibition Pandemic/Protest at Contemporary Art Matters, Columbus, OH, and in 2023, she participated in the virtual exhibition Summertime 2023: A Virtual Exhibition with Contemporary Art Matters, Columbus, OH. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States, including Contemporary Art Matters, Columbus, OH; Elizabeth Harris Gallery, New York, NY; the Pizzuti Collection, Columbus, OH; the Queens Museum of Art, Queens, NY; the Woodmere Art Museum, Philadelphia, PA; SUNY Westchester Community College, Valhalla, NY; and the Cosmopolitan Club of Philadelphia, PA. Her work has been written about in The New York Times, The Brooklyn Rail, ArtNews, The Columbus Dispatch, Two Coats of Paint, and The Village Voice. It is included in the public collections of the Columbus Museum of Art and the Pennsylvania Convention Center, where it is on permanent view. Higgins has received numerous awards and grants, including the Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA Grant; three grants from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation; the FST Studio Projects Fund Grant; the Artist’s Fellowship Grant; and the Silas H. Rhodes Merit Scholarship to attend the School of Visual Arts.
