Black Rock and Beyond
June 25 – August 28, 2020
Contemporary Art Matters is proud to present an exhibition of Heather Jones, an accomplished artist based in South-Western Ohio, gaining attention for her sewn-fabric works. Jones’ solo exhibition ‘Black Rock and Beyond’ will be on view June 25-August 28, 2020, with a socially-distanced private tour opportunity on June 25. She had the unique privilege of being one of the inaugural artist-in residence at Kehinde Wiley’s Black Rock Senegal in 2019 and will be included in the forthcoming Dakar Biennial. Dakar, the ocean front capital of Senegal, is famous for its colonial architecture, beaches, rich musical culture. Senegal is also important to US slave trade history with its memorial House of Slaves and the Door of No Return on Goree Island. This experience had a profound and lasting effect on her work that will continue for some time.
