Heimir Björgúlfsson (b. Reykjavík, Iceland, 1975) lives and works in Los Angeles, California. He received his MFA from the Sandberg Institute in 2003 and his BFA from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2001, both in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In 1998, he graduated from the Sonology program at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, The Netherlands. His work has been exhibited widely in Europe and the United States in both solo and group exhibitions. He recently participated in the group exhibition California Dreaming, 2025, at Contemporary Art Matters in Columbus, Ohio. Recent solo exhibitions include No Hard Feelings at Fantasía Vinnustofa Kjarval, Reykjavík, Iceland, 2025, and This Will Solve Everything, 2024, at Gerald Peters Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His work is held in numerous museum collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas; the Columbus Museum of Art at The Pizzuti, Columbus, Ohio; 21C Museum, Louisville, Kentucky; the Reykjavík Art Museum, Reykjavík, Iceland; and the Akureyri Art Museum, Akureyri, Iceland. In 2025, he won The Homiens Art Prize in New York. In 2012, he was nominated for the Carnegie Art Award in Stockholm, Sweden, and in 2006, he was nominated for the De Volkskrant Visual Art Prize in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
