Rob Wynne
Rob Wynne is a conceptual artist who collects images and phrases appropriated from classic literature to pop culture. From Jean Genet’s stage directions to Maria Callas’ Master Class quotations, Wynne captures the words that take one from technique to art, that space in between, where ideas flourish and inspire the mind and body. The images are elegant, nostalgic and provocative. As a conceptual artist, his work takes many forms from hand-poured, mirrored glass to screen-printed, embroidered canvas, to bronze and sewn beads on vellum. Each work is a unique exploration of material and idea. We are simultaneously transfixed by the object and transported to an alternate, poetic universe.
Rob Wynne (born 1948) is an American visual artist who lives and works in New York City. Wynne has had numerous solo gallery exhibitions, including JGM Galerie, Paris; Galerie Edward Mitterand, Geneva; and Holly Solomon Gallery, New York. His work has been featured in group exhibitions at the McNay Art Museum, TX; P.S.1 Institute for Contemporary Art, NY; Long Beach Museum of Art, CA; The Drawing Center, NY; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA. Wynne’s work is in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; The Museum of Modern Art, NY; Philadelphia Museum of Art, PA; Centre Pompidou, France; The Norton Museum of Art, FL; the Columbus Museum of Art, OH; and the Bibliotheque Nationale de France, Paris.
