Laura Larson:
All The Women I Know
All the Women I Know emerges from a set of questions about my art practice and its connection to my daily life. As documents, the portraits function in simple terms—I am here photographing this person, an act I see as a form of exchange. The title reads like the beginning of a sentence that begs completion. Besides myself, what do these women have in common? From a feminist perspective, the project contemplates connection: personal and political; familial and strategic; ties of affinity and of chance, mapping a constellation of possible relationships. The scale of the prints is intimate: 5 x 7 on 8 x 10” paper. This intimacy is a critical aspect of the project and reflects its political concerns: how to take account, on a human scale, of our connections to one another and how to honor our differences.
