Announcing Representation Matt Wedel
Contemporary Art Matters is pleased to welcome ceramic artist Matt Wedel (b. 1983, Palisade, Colorado) to our roster of artists.
Wedel lives and works in Athens, OH. His innovative approach to sculpture expands the boundaries of scale, color, and materiality, and continues his ongoing dialogue between tradition and reinvention, challenging perceptions of what clay can be. We look forward to sharing Matt Wedel’s work with our collectors and community.
Matt Wedel earned his BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2005) and an MFA in Ceramics from California State University, Long Beach (2007). His work has been shown in solo exhibitions, including Matt Wedel: Phenomenal Debris at the Toledo Museum of Art (2023) and Matt Wedel: On the Verge at the Louisiana State University Art Museum (2019).
His work is held in significant collections including the Clay Museum of Ceramic Art Middelfart (Denmark), the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (Halifax), the Honolulu Museum of Art, and the Long Beach Museum of Art (California).
