A show of his prints from Oaxaca is on view at the Laguna Art Museum as part of the Pacific Standard Time initiative.
McCleary was born in Santa Monica, California. He attended Santa Monica College, the San Francisco Art Institute, and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.
